MY FIRST GAME ON ITCH.IO

MY FIRST GAME ON ITCH.IO

Hey everyone,

It's Botastic here a.k.a Akash Elnoorkar! Today is a special day for me, not because I published my first game as a Web Browser on itch.io, but because of the journey. As someone once said,

It's not the destination that matters, but it's the journey.....

I felt that quote today. I had a very difficult path in making this game.

Firstly, I made it with Unity using Visual Scripting, which by the way, I was doing ,for the my first time. I've created games before using C#, but rather I chose a different path for this.

I started this game on 1st of May, at the start, it was so easy. Just the player movement, hazards etc. It was fun. Then, came the most boring part and also the most important, THE LOGIC PART!

It was so confusing at first, because I've never used Visual Scripting before, It was so time taking and also the longest part in this project. It took me almost 10 days to complete it. And then, again, after the boring part, comes the best part, always. Only this time, it was LEVEL DESIGNS!

Life was so good, till this. I've enjoyed each and every bit. Level designs are the best part in any project!

Simultaneously, I was also doing post-processing to the game, to make it look more VISUALLY APPEALING.

This was it.....

WAIT! Then where was the difficult part, you were talking about?

HERE IT IS.

Look, basically, I was making this game on Android platform. I am a lot into making mobile games as of now. Everything was fine, UNITL....

I build it.

After the build, I found out that, the game is completely broken.  You ask me why?

Well, the Main Menu Scene, oh I just hate this "Main Menu Scene", the problem was, it was loading. And, when I pressed PLAY, boom, nothing happened. By the way, it's 21st of May as of now. I published this game on Play Store on 17th of May and it took 4 days to review and publish it on Play Store, it's common though.

But, What's not common is, why was my game broken??

I went in Unity, found out a million bugs, through warnings, of course, not through errors!

There's a lot of difference here, like FIRE AND WATER, MARVEL AND DC, PEN AND PENCIL!

And you know what's the funniest part? In Unity, the game was buttery smooth and had no problems. I just went HMMMM.....

When I look back, this was the most depressing part in the project. I kept on resolving those useless bugs, which didn't do anything and I was broken.

Before this project, I was worried about designs, gameplay, animations, visual scripting and many more things. But, not once was I worried about the build, which essentially is the most important part. I SUCK, I thought.

I tried millions things on this to make it work, but instead, it made it worse.

And as usual, I also planned it, too release this on a Web Browser, so that, my PC gamer friends, could also play it.

ALL OF MY DREAMS WERE SHATTERED, because, I've already announced this game to all my friends and they kept asking and I kept disappointing.

Then, one EPIC thing happened, in the darkest of times, a light came shinning through me.

I SUCK.

It was a stupid mistake, you won't believe it. I asked myself a question,

I've made several games before using C#, this is not different than this, only it is made using Visual Scripting....
HMMM....
Is there something wrong with my script?
Is there something wrong with Unity?
Is there something wrong with my OS?
Is there something wrong with my PC?
Is there something wrong with myself?
Is there something wrong with this world?
Is there something wrong with the universe?

I kept questioning these beautiful questions, which made me PARANOID.

I kept figuring it out, push some updates on Play Store, but nothing worked.

After a million searches on Chrome, considering incognito mode too, I got an answer.

I SUCK.

It was until today, that is, 27th of May..... I found it.

For Visual Scripting, you require a software called BOLT, which I am, writing in bold.

This software, does not save scripts until you perform AOT PRE-BUILD.

I don't even know what is that....

I performed and BOOM, it worked, out of nowhere.

There wasn't a problem in my script, come on, I CAN NEVER BE WRONG.

By the way, the first thing I did was to publish it here, on itch.io.

Then, as I said, I released it on version 0.1 on Play Store, well the final release with no bugs was 1.1, literally I pushed 10 updates, questioning myself, later realizing, it wasn't my mistake at all.

THE GAME WAS PERFECT!

Anyways, thanks to BOLT, for not mentioning it anywhere and wasting 6 days of my IMPORTANT LIFE.

Anyways, I don't think this is a beautiful journey, but it is surely FUNNY.

Looking forward on my next game, keeping this BOLT thing in my mind.

This DEV LOG will remind me of it, surely.

I SUCK.

Hey!! What's your problem? Maybe I can help it out. And just know one thing man, no matter how many days it takes, never give up. If you do, you're done.

Problem is i am bad in 2d art , although thanks for replying , i played your game the dying animation is pretty good

Ohh, you'll get better with practice, definitely. It's not that hard or time taking to learn. ALL THE BEST!
